AT THE HEART OF FORMULA 1, THE 2023 CONCOURS EXCELLENCE MÉCANIQUE ALPINE FINALS SHOWCASING NEW TALENT

• Nicolas Lucien and Lucas Stawski are the winners of the 2023 Concours Excellence Mécanique Alpine (CEMA), held this Saturday at the BWT Alpine F1 Team factory in Viry-Châtillon, supported by the mentor of the competition, team driver Esteban Ocon. Following this victory, they will receive a three-month work experience with BWT Alpine F1 Team. • To mark the finals of this national competition created to promote the mechanical engineering sector and developed in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Employment & Integration, as well as the Ministry of National Education & Youth, Minister Olivier Dussopt, in the presence of Jean-Dominique Sénard, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Renault Group and Laurent Rossi, Alpine CEO, went to the site to congratulate the finalists and to meet with them. • Zinedine Zidane, mentor of Alpine’s equal opportunities programmes, came to personally support the young talents and spend the day with them.

The finals honouring youngenthusiasts from all over France

After two selection sessions, atheoretical exam to assess general mechanical knowledge and a hands-on testorganised in eight regional Renault training centres, the eight pairs offinalists met at the BWT Alpine F1 Team site in Viry-Châtillon on 12 and 13 ofMay 2023 to compete in the finals of the Concours Excellence Mécanique Alpine.

After this final round, the winning pair,Nicolas Lucien and Lucas Stawsky, will receive a three-month work experience inthe mechanical assembly workshop of BWT Alpine F1 Team in Viry-Châtillon, withthe possibility of an apprenticeship contract.

Transmission at the heart ofthe Concours Excellence Mécanique Alpine

Created as an immersion into the heart of F1, the finals allowed theyoung talents to visit the Viry-Châtillon site, work on F1 Power Unitcomponents, discover the teams' working environment and meet the engine expertsworking in the current Formula 1 season.

During these days ofcompetition, the 16 young talents had the opportunity to meet withprofessionals from the various workshops to discuss their day-to-day work, aswell as with the members of the jury, who were both teachers from vocationaltraining centres or high schools and F1 engine specialists. This year thecandidates could also familiarise themselves with the hybridisation andelectrification challenges during hands-on regional sessions.

Two days of thefinals punctuated by inspiring encounters

Zinedine Zidane, Alpine’s equalopportunity programmes mentor, made a surprise visit to spend the first daywith the candidates and meet the Viry-Châtillon team with Laurent Rossi, to chatabout their career paths, the challenges of excellence and their dreams for thefuture.

And these young people from CEMA are impressive!Both their passion for this profession and their need to surpass themselves, todo everything they can to succeed. It was important for me to spend somequality time with them. I love the give and takes. And if I can pass on two orthree things about my experience... Savoir-être and savoir-fairehonoured

On Saturday, after thecompetition and under the watchful eye of BWT Alpine F1 Team driver EstebanOcon, the jury of professionals composed of teachers from the French NationalEducation system and engine manufacturers selected the two winners. Thisdecision was based on criteria relating to the excellence of their savoir-êtreand savoir-faire.

"Just like last year, Iam impressed by the maturity, talent and level of expertise of these youngenthusiasts who have tremendous potential. I want to congratulate all theparticipants of this second edition and the two winners, Nicolas and Lucas. Itis a pleasure to know that they will be working alongside us as members of BWTAlpine F1 Team, but also to know that this is an apprenticeship and anexperience that will serve them for the rest of their lives", Esteban Ocon, BWTAlpine F1 Team driver and Concours Excellence Mécanique Alpine mentor.

Particular attention was paid during the finals to the candidates' attitudethrough the evaluation of their communication skills, team spirit and abilityto handle stress, all essential qualities for working in the F1. Throughout theweekend and during the various stages of the competition, the candidatesdemonstrated these skills to the jury; with tremendous enthusiasm.

The two young talents, NicolasLucien and Lucas Stawsky, will continue to learn, alongside Alpine's engineexperts, the specificities of the operation of a single-seater F1 car and itsecosystem during their three-month work experience in the BWT Alpine F1 Team'smechanical assembly workshop. Both 19 years old, they respectively hail fromFrencq and Calais, municipalities in the Pas-de-Calais. Nicolas is a mechanicsapprentice at the CFA in Saint-Martin Boulogne, just like Lucas. They are bothpassionate about automobile mechanics and share a desire to develop in thissector.
